Achagarry

August 2026

This month Ullapool Construction Ltd has been preparing the ground to form the route of the new road.

Ground investigation is underway for the foundations of the new houses and drainage is being prepared.

The design team, including Seoras, Jamie from Catoe Brown, Gary from WSD, our Clerk of Works Claire, and Angus from Ullapool Construction, held their second on-site meeting including going over progress at Coigach Community Hall.

Achagarry Update, July 2026

We are delighted to see works beginning at Achagarry following a sudden flurry of successful funding decisions from the SSE – Sustainable Communities Fund, Rural and Island Housing fund and Regeneration Capital Fund.  A full press release is available here.

Achagarry Update, January 2025

Test pits have been dug along at Achagarry by local contractor, Will Wilding, to assess the site’s ground conditions for engineering purposes. The results will inform the detailed design of the housing development’s foundations, drainage and roads etc. This will assist the engineer’s response to questions from the roads and transport department on our planning application.

We have had a supportive response from forestry and hope to progress to full planning permission very soon!

In the meantime we have begun work with an employers agent to ensure we get an early indication of build costs to inform funding bids and investors.

October 2024

We are very excited to announce that our planning application for 10 new homes at Achagarry is now in. Please click here to see the full planning application. Comments are open until 25 October 2024.

We have also set up a Facebook page to keep everyone up to speed with the development’s progress. Click on The Achagarry Project to like and follow us!

Achagarry Update from Seori, August 2024

Achagarry has been developed from early concept stage to a design that can be finalised for submitting to planning this summer. Successful community engagement events were held in March and June and the feedback on the concept designs was generally very positive. A careful site analysis by architects Catoe/Brown led to a layout accommodating a fairly high density of development whilst still maintaining good quality open space. The final housing mix will include two and three-bedroom houses and four innovative cottage flats.

Tried and tested materials such as render, timber and metal roof cladding produce an attractive design, both familiar and with a contemporary feel. The planning process will take a few months, as the details are registered, circulated to statutory consultees and assessed by the planners. Once planning has been secured, Achagarry can move to the next stage where the technical design will be developed, and a contractor appointed to move forward to construction.

June 2023

In June 2023 CCDC were delighted to announce that we had been successful in our bid to buy Achiltibuie’s former Hydroponicum site on behalf of the community, with funding from the Scottish Land Fund. Read the full press release here!

A year on, and affordable housing designs for the site are close to going to planning, which is hugely exciting. Please keep an eye out here for regular project updates.
