Achiltibuie Community Garden Pilot Project

Coigach Community Development Company (CCDC) and the Achiltibuie Garden (AG) directors have been working in partnership on a pilot project since March 2024, which is aiming to establish a community garden which delivers a wide range of food growing and education projects which engage the whole community, along with visitors to the area.

The next phase of the project is to run until the spring of 2026. Over the last year, the Keder house has been re-established as a productive growing space with new raised beds and a functioning hydroponic system, and work has begun on an outside growing space.

Service required

CCDC are seeking an experienced community garden technician to provide ad hoc services to assist in improving and maintaining the infrastructure of the Achiltibuie Community Garden. The technician will also provide advice to help our Local Development Officer (LDO) in planning events and will occasionally be asked to support volunteers of all abilities to complete technical tasks.

A knowledge of conventional gardening techniques and hydroponic systems is essential, along with experience of working with renewable energy sources: currently, collected rainwater is distributed via a solar-powered pump.

The technician will also know how to operate and maintain hand tools and small power equipment and have the skills to provide on-site direction, instruction, supervision and guidance to volunteers at times agreed with the LDO.

There is a budget of £6240 available and service providers are invited to bid for this work which will be carried out over the 12 months starting from April 2025.
