In February, CCDC was asked to facilitate a meeting of Old Dornie Harbour users to discuss the future of the harbour and ongoing concerns about maintenance and development.

Fourteen individuals attended the meeting, representing individual harbour users and businesses.  The Community Council and Development Company were also in attendance and we heard from a representative of the Crown Estate who has practical facilities management experience of piers and harbours on the West Coast.  

The group agreed that the Community Council should write to Highland Council to clarify any investment and maintenance plans and whether a community asset transfer might be possible.  We also asked whether the Community could carry out some basic upgrades.

Dialogue is now open with Highland Council and we hope to meet with a representative over the summer.  

In the process we have learned about how other facilities are managed by communities on the West Coast, including Plockton, Aultbea and Staffin, and we hope to learn from these areas as we explore the future for Old Dornie.
