The research has been published on Wednesday (18 June). Funding from the Scottish Government’s Addressing Depopulation Fund via Highland Council and the Community Regeneration Fund have enabled us to produce the most detailed understanding possible of the state of play in communities in the North West, five years on from the publication of the NW2045 Community Vision.
It paints a clear and urgent picture: depopulation is accelerating, vital services are under increasing strain, and new policy approaches are needed in areas like ours.
Our hope that this report can provide a foundation for renewed momentum and influence, and represent a first step – In the coming months, we’ll begin working to translate its findings into strategic recommendations — engaging with partners, policymakers, and community stakeholders to define what now needs to change at a national level, and how the people and places of the North West can be more fully recognised and supported. We hope too that the information contained within might be useful in your own work.
A couple of quick updates:
To deepen communities going forward, NW2045 now has a Community Steering Group, with a representative from each of the seven community council areas. You can find more about the group on the website here.
We continue to host our bi-monthly NW2045 network catch-ups, with the next one taking place on Wednesday 25 June at 9:30am. If you’re not currently on the invite list and would like to be added, please email joseph.peach@northwest2045.
scot. Finally, we’re refreshing the list of organisations and groups involved in NW2045, which currently dates from 2021. Please confirm if you’d be happy for your organisation to appear on this updated list (to be published on the NW2045 website), by completing this short form.
Best wishes,
The NW2045 Team
