Meet the minds behind Achagarry: Jamie Catoe & Edward Brown of catoe/brown
Based in Inverness and Portree, catoe/brown is an architecture and landscape studio led by directors Jamie Catoe and Edward Brown. With a shared commitment to community-led design and sustainable development, their practice blends contemporary architectural thinking with deep respect for Highland landscapes and heritage.
Jamie and Edward bring a collaborative, hands-on approach to every project, working closely with local organisations to deliver meaningful, place-sensitive design. Their work on the Achagarry affordable housing development—commissioned by Coigach Community Development Company (CCDC) in partnership with Communities Housing Trust (CHT)—embodies this ethos. From early concept design through planning and consultation, catoe/brown have championed a vision rooted in community needs, ecological awareness, and architectural integrity.
The Achagarry project reflects their belief that good design is not just about buildings—it’s about people, place, and possibility. With a focus on accessibility, sustainability, and local character, Jamie and Edward are helping shape a future for Achiltibuie that honours its past while embracing new opportunities.
