Housing PHOTO OF SCHOOLHOUSE
Key to tackling the problem of depopulation on the peninsula, housing is a top priority for CCDC. Working in partnership with the Communities Housing Trust (CHT) we managed to secure an asset transfer from the Highland Council of the former Schoolhouse building in Achiltibuie. The building has been converted into two comfortable flats which now have tenants. We have been working with Seoras Burnett in 2022 to look at possible sites for building affordable housing and will be undertaking community consultation soon to ascertain what people feel is needed here now.
Infrastucture
Acheninver Coastal Path
Acheninver Coastal Path, a Coigach and Assynt Living Landscape Partnership project, is proving popular with local and visiting walkers and beach users. Starting at the Youth Hostel car park, it runs down the right-hand side of the burn and you have the option of crossing over to gorgeous Acheninver beach. You can then scramble up the cliff path, walk over the moorland on a beautiful new path and join the road back up towards the Youth Hostel car park.
Fox Point Path
Fox Point path was also upgraded and an extension completed in 2022 so that walkers can bypass busy Old Dornie “new” pier by joining the path by the old pier. Path work was undertaken by ACT Heritage and a plinth built by Brian Wilson, Wildland Services to accommodate a map panel, which our own Julia Campbell designed.
