Coigach Community Development Company

New Year, New Company, New Faces, New Event!

"Gang wie me, Mary and I'll show ye oor community wind turbine.."

Firstly, Happy New Year to all our members, friends and followers.

Lang may your lums reek and a’ that!

We start the new year with a new company: COIGACH WIND POWER LTD  set up and owned by CCDC was incorporated on 16th December 2011. The directors include some familiar faces from the CCDC; Ann Macleod, Iain Muir and Steve Husband who are joined by new recruits Alison Sinclair, Kate Hayes and Kevin Peach who bring a wealth of experience and expertise in engineering, renewables and managing complex projects.

CWP Ltd will of course work closely with CCDC and will take over the management of the community wind power project. Since the erection of the met mast in early October, the results so far have been extremely encouraging; especially as you may remember we had several weeks of very calm weather in the late autumn. Atmos Consulting Ltd are well on the way with their studies and preparations for our submission to planning and Atmos Project Officer Tessa Quinton will be on hand at our open day on Wednesday 25th January: this is your opportunity to see and comment on the plans and discuss it with Tessa, CCDC Directors and staff and of course, each other.

A community owned wind turbine would bring a much-needed income stream to the area: imagine if we could build community housing to encourage young families , workshop units for small local businesses or repair and develop our deteriorating piers? What else? Our Open Day in  Coigach Community Hall (11am – 3pm and 5pm – 8pm) will give everyone a chance to meet the consultants and get up to speed with all the technical stuff but also to have a chat over a cup of tea and discuss how best to invest the community’s potential income. It’s Burns night so before you tuck into your haggis and neeps, come along to the hall neibors, and neibors meet…

The date for your nice new diary is:

Wednesday 25th January, 11am – 3pm and/or 5pm – 8pm, Coigach Community Hall
