The Directors of Coigach Community CIC are pleased to announce that the repair of our Turbine by replacing the entire nacelle has been successfully completed.
Over the week of the 6th July the Nacelle was changed and work over the next couple of weeks led to commissioning and production restarting on the 23rd July. Between then and the end of the month, the turbine generated about 23,000 kWh of production.
When we built the Turbine in 2017 it took four or five months of adjustments to the turbine settings to get it operating at its most efficient. We are monitoring production with a view to reaching that optimum efficiency much more quickly this time.
Our attention now turns to resolving the outstanding Insurance claims so that we can pay the CARES Loan off and meet the payments due next March. We have two Insurance claims running at the moment:-
Business Interruption – this covers us for the lost income for the year after the breakdown in May 2025.
Material Damage – This should cover us for a significant portion of the repair costs. It won’t cover the complete cost as “technically” the replacement of the nacelle was not necessary, but the Directors considered that the engineering resilience created by changing the nacelle, and the transfer of responsibility for all the major components to our new maintenance partners made it a sensible decision.
Last week we had a call between Loss Adjusters, our broker, and ourselves. We are all hoping to get both of these claims resolved this calendar year.
There are uninsured losses and a recovery strategy is being developed for this element.
