Writing to our MP to help create a local energy club
We have been working with Energy Local to look at whether it would be viable to set up a local energy club so that electricity generated by the wind turbine can be sold directly to local households and businesses.
The process has hit a snag however in that current legislation means that a local energy market can only be set up if the turbine and the local electricity network runs at the same voltage. Here, the turbine generates at a considerably higher voltage than the local network runs at and so we can’t proceed any further under the current legislation.
However! There is currently a proposal to change this legislation which would allow us to carry on with our plans. The proposal is called the P441 modification and more information can be found here.
We’re writing to our MP, Jamie Stone, to ask him to contact the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to highlight the steps they can take to enable more communities including ourselves to benefit from a local energy club.
There will be a copy of the letter available to sign at the Coigach Gathering this Saturday 5th July and we would really appreciate it if you could come along and sign it in support. The more voices from the local community the stronger it makes our case!
You can read our letter here and find out more about the proposed legislative changes here.
