Achagarry Update:

Halfway between the road and the sea on the Achagarry site stands the ruins of the White House (an Tigh Geal). Its name was derived from being the first building in Coigach built with lime mortar and finished with harling. Legend has it that the house was built at an angle so that its original occupant, unpopular estate tacksman Lieutenant Daniel Mackenzie, could observe the executions on the Cnoc na Croiche. However, the record demonstrates that by then executions were all carried out in Inverness.

This week the CCDC team is currently working on plans to stabilise the ruin and develop a project which retains this important piece of local history and potentially creates a garden and amenity space for the community as part of the Achagarry development.
